Bolton Boarding House – Steyning Grammar School

Bolton House New Boarding House 1

Steyning Grammar School was founded in 1614 and is a non selective, Church of England voluntary controlled comprehensive school. It is also a State Boarding School.

Following a competitive selection process, Miller Bourne was appointed to design a new boarding house with 53No en-suite study bedrooms, a dining hall for 160, three staff flats and supporting social, quiet and work spaces.

The site is within the curtilege of the Grade 1 Listed Old School and the building was constructed on a restricted site containing a redundant swimming adjacent to an existing boarding house. The building has stock brick elevations and a clay plain tile roof with lead covered dormers to suit the historic setting. The building was opened by The Duchess of Gloucester in July 2015.

PROCUREMENT: Miller Bourne obtained Planning Consent in 2009. Acted as Executive Architects to the Design and Build Contractor.
