New Clubhouse for Seaford & Newhaven Sailing Club

Seaford and Newhaven Sailing Club is located in an attractive but exposed location at the top of the beach in front of the Tide Mills nature reserve between Seaford and Newhaven with stunning views east and west across the bay.

Miller Bourne Architects were asked to develop a concept design for a new Club House to replace the existing that suffered from cramped accommodation and was in a poor condition.

The proposed design utilised the fall in the ground level behind the beach to locate the club entrance, changing rooms and storage at the lower ground level with access to and from the carpark and boatpark. The upper ground floor was set on a small podium to bring it up slightly higher than the promenade that runs along the rear of the beach. This floor level contained the club function facilities which included the replacement of a popular café. Setting this floor on the podium allowed those sitting in the cafe and on outside terrace under a wave formed pergola to see over the heads of pedestrians passing by.

The top floor tower provides accommodation for Race Control and access to the solar panels located on the adjacent flat roof.
