Miller Bourne Architects have been working at Yehudi Menuhin School since 1995 and over that time have been involved with the design and construction of student boarding accommodation, the main teaching building and the new headmasters house amongst others.
More recently we have been commissioned for the design and construction for an extension to the original student boarding accommodation and a new music studio building. This will provide 9 music teaching studios, 2 practice rooms and a larger music teaching / performance space, as well as space for the school music library, instrument stores and ancillary accommodation.
The studios have been designed to provide high levels of sound separation and optimum acoustics for specific instruments to be used in each space. The studios have been designed with large picture windows and rooflights to provide plenty of natural ventilation and light. The main teaching room will open out onto a piazza to tiered seating for outdoor performances.
The vision is for the building to become the heart of the school and allow the current teaching areas to revert back to their original function as residential accommodation.
