New Library and Sixth Form Study Centre - Hurstpierpoint College

New Library and Sixth Form Study Centre 2

Miller Bourne has been working at the College since 2005. Initially involved with the development of a Masterplan, the practice has implemented a series of projects to provide new teaching spaces including classrooms, science laboratories and a design and technology suite.

The configuration and layout of the new library and sixth form centre building allows linkages into the existing quad circulation routes and the upper level accommodation of two adjoining buildings.

A new hall with retractable seating that can be rapidly set up when the hall is needed for assembly, occupies most of the ground floor. The main reference library occupies the first floor level. It has been designed to be a secure open plan space.

The sixth form study centre occupies the whole of the second floor. The layout provides flexible tutorial rooms that can be closed off for private study or classroom activities.

The high-level fenestration and roof form floods the space with natural north light.
