The Pelican Boarding House provides approximately 2300m² of new high quality residential accommodation, with a mixer of single, double triple and quad study bedrooms together with ancillary accommodation a Staff House and two flats, with the design reflecting the existing traditional school buildings but with sharper and contemporary detailing.
Due to the tight programme set by the school, Miller Bourne suggested constructing the building using the Streif prefabricated panel system which would reduce the time on site from 56 down to 44 weeks. The system also provided added benefits of a very high quality finish, robustness, high levels of thermal efficiency and compared to traditional systems a significant reduction in site traffic, wastage and disruption.
Work started on site in January 2020 and even with the major disruption caused by the first Covid lockdown the building was handed over in the October half term of that year.
