Miller Bourne was appointed by East Sussex County Council to undertake a space audit of the existing 2FE Primary School with 420 places.
The site had responded historically to pupil growth by the installation of a series of temporary classroom buildings. A Feasibility Study was undertaken to review and identify site development opportunities for new permanent accommodation.
The project comprised the removal and replacement of the temporary classrooms and the construction of permanent accommodation including the provision of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) accommodation.
Miller Bourne obtained Planning Consent for the project.
Procurement of the project was undertaken through the ESCC / IESE process and construction was undertaken by Baxall Construction Ltd. Miller Bourne provided the detailed technical design and consultant coordination for Baxall Construction.
The building was prefabricated ‘off-site’ by Streif using a ‘closed panel’ system of a super insulated solid timber frame with pre-installed windows.
Working on a restricted site, the project was undertaken in phases to enable the existing School to remain operational during the construction period and limiting the amount of decant facilities necessary.
