Since undertaking a site wide masterplan for Caterham School in 2003, we have been involved in a number of high profile developments to extend and increase the educational facilities at this leading independent school.
Most recently we have reconfigured an existing 1930s changing room block, building new Junior School and specialist art classroom spaces on top of the flat roofs of the existing building at the same time fully refurbishing the changing areas and shower facilities. The scheme also provides a new staff hospitality facility with an external terrace overlooking the school sports pitches.
The challenges included maintaining the existing operation of the teaching spaces below whilst developing a new lightweight structure above and around them. The new development has brought a whole new lease of life to what were elderly facilities, the new rooms and spaces are now light and bright with views out across the sports fields.
