Appointed by Brighton Hove City Council, Miller Bourne has designed 15 affordable flats, as part of Brighton and Hove City Council’s New Homes for Neighbourhoods programme.
Planning permission was granted after the Planning Committee voted unanimously in favour of the proposal, located on the corner of Windlesham Close and Locks Crescent in Portslade.
This ‘landscape-led’ scheme has been designed to meet the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge (2025) Targets and is expected to reduce on-site regulated carbon emissions by 66%. A blue roof has been incorporated to reduce risk of local flooding and 92% of electricity generated from an array of roof-top PVs will be available for use directly by the flats with only 8% being exported back to the grid. Heating and hot water will be supplied by ground source heat pumps for additional carbon reduction on site.
The contemporary style building compliments the character, style and detailing of the existing properties in the surrounding area, with every flat having private outdoor space – either a patio or balcony. New trees and shrubs in the surrounding soft landscape will significantly enhance the area and provide outside spaces for the local community to enjoy.
